Who will the Indiana Fever select in this year’s draft?

The WNBA Draft is around the corner. This year, the Indiana Fever has struck the first pick for the first time in franchise history. The question, however, still looms: who will the Fever select as the first overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft?

2023 WNBA Draft

The 2023 WNBA Draft will be televised on ESPN on April 10. Many college prospects will attend the draft in New York to make their WNBA dreams come true. A multitude of draft experts think the first pick will be an obvious one: Aliyah Boston. However, is it really that obvious?

Indiana Fever select Aliyah Boston

The Indiana Fever has not been a playoff contender for the last seven seasons. As luck would have it, they also have never held the first pick in any WNBA Draft. Many mock draft boards predict the Fever will draft University of South Carolina center Aliyah Boston . Boston is unlike any prospect the draft has ever seen. She is an upper echelon rebounder and dominant scorer within 12 feet. Boston may be the final piece of the Fever’s playoff hopes.

Jordan Horston

Another unique prospect is Jordan Horston. The Tennessee 6-foot-2 guard has numerous upsides. However, with her upsides comes a bevy of skills that require fine-tuning. Many love Horston’s ability to clean glass out of the guard position. Horston averaged 15.6 points and a respectable 7 rebounds in her final season with the Lady Volunteers. Some draft experts believe Horston will make her way to Dallas and thrive in a system built for mid-range specialists.

Maddy Siegrist to the Indiana Fever?

Villanova Wildcat forward Maddy Siegrist is another NCAAW prospect that will undoubtedly be picked up by the 4th pick of the WNBA Draft. In her final season, Siegrist led the league in points, averaging 29 points per contest. Siegrist dropped an amazing 50 points at Seton Hall on February 11, tying Lorri Bauman’s record set in a contest between Drake and Maryland in 1982. The Villanova forward also received the Katrina McLain Award, which is bestowed upon the nation’s top power forward. Siegrist would be a welcome addition to the Indiana Fever.

Diamond Miller

Although many draft boards predict the Fever will snag the three-time, First-Team All-American Aliyah Boston, many fans would not fault the organization for selecting Diamond Miller. This Maryland guard led her squad to the Elite Eight for the first time in years. The 6-foot-3 elite prospect possesses athleticism unlike any other. Her build type is preferred by many general managers, including the Indiana Fever’s Lin Dunn. Like many prospects, Miller has offensive woes that require ironing out, but she would still be a powerful player in basketball country.
