CINCINNATI, OH — This morning, City officials raised a Cincinnati Bengals flag up the flagpole at City Hall. The gesture recognizes the Bengals’ advancement to the AFC Championship Game this weekend and will root them on to victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Our Bengals have once again represented us with unmatched confidence and swagger,” said Mayor Aftab Pureval. “Fans have rallied behind this team all year, and we’re ready to bring all our energy to these final weeks. We’re proud to have their flag raised high in our City, and we can’t wait to remind everyone around the country that you can never count Cincinnati out.”
City Manager Sheryl M. M. Long has the authority to raise and lower flags at all buildings, grounds, and facilities owned or under control of the City of Cincinnati, and enthusiastically approves raising the Bengals flag to show the City’s support.
“The City of Cincinnati is ready to see our Bengals in the Super Bowl!” says Long, who was regrettably not able to attend the flag-raising this morning. “Even when the team is on the road, we want the Bengals to know that the orange and black is flying high. Who Dey!”
The AFC Championship Game takes place Sunday, January 29 at 6:30 p.m. ET in Kansas City. A rematch of last year’s conference championship, it marks the next and final step in the Bengals’ quest for a second consecutive Super Bowl appearance.
