Wayne County, GTR. Mitchell Church Partner for Black Men’s Health Event

Men, it’s time to get real about health.

Wayne County and Greater Mitchell Temple Church of God in Christ are partnering for a men’s health day. The 200 Black Men Health and Wellness Breakfast will bring awareness to issues that impact African American men and provide tools and resources to guide them on a road to better health.

The breakfast features a panel discussion addressing subjects from finances to mental and physical health. Doctors will be in attendance for a question-and-answer segment. Subjects will cover preventative care, diabetes and hypertension, fear of doctors and more.

Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans and Pastor Ethan Sheard will be hosting the health and wellness breakfast. The Church and the County are seeking to establish a partnership of service. This event would be the first in a series of joint activities between the two entities.

“In today’s culture, so much emphasis is placed on wealth that it has warped our overall perspective on what really matters in this life,” said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. “The truth, and what Black men need to really understand at a core level, is that overall health and wellness are extremely important. Because health and wellness continue to be stigmatized for Black men, many ailments that could be remedied are often missed. This event will help shine a light on the importance of health for Black men and provide
resources for assistance.”

“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, statistically speaking, Black men live seven years less than men of other racial groups. It is this data that provokes us to action. We need our Black men healthy and well, mentally, physically, financially and spiritually,” said Pastor Sheard.

The 200 Black Men Health and Wellness Breakfast was scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, July 30 at Greater Mitchell Temple COGIC,
located on 13737 Curtis in Detroit.
