Billie Jo Bottom-Brown, mother of Jericho co-founder and Spirit of Mandela initiator Jalil Muntaqim, went to the ancestors on July 15, 2022. This is a great loss for all of us who knew her but most especially for her family.

“The Passing of a Maker of a Panther”

Billie Jo Bottom-Brown

Presente

Nov. 19, 1934, to July 15, 2022

My Mom read an article written by Michael Harriot, “An Exclusive Interview With the Jaguar Who ‘Attacked’ a Woman at an Arizona Zoo.” In the interview, the Jaguar identified herself by saying:

“I am M’yteatchu, princess of the great forest, mother of panthers, punisher of line-crossers, breaker of chains, destroyer of Beckies.”

At that time, Billie Jo Bottom-Brown adopted the name “Mother of Panthers,” having supported my fight for freedom when I was held captive in the penal slave system for 49 years. Every day since my capture in 1971 until I was released on parole in 2020, she not only fought for my release in those 49 years, she also hosted Panthers at her home and supported various political prisoners.

Born Nov. 19, 1934, in Houston, Texas, Billie Jo Foreman, grew to become an activist, African dancer, choreographer of African dance performances, and mother of four, with an undergraduate college degree. As an elementary school teacher, she managed to ensure her children had a better lifestyle than she experienced in post-depression racist America.

On July 15, 2022, Ms. Billie, as she was often referred to, joined the ancestors after a heroic year-long battle with Stage 4 lung cancer that metastasized to her brain. Her vibrant no-nonsense spirit and her gregarious loving belief in the general goodness of humanity was felt by many. She will be sorely missed.

Ms. Billie’s memorial services will be on Saturday, July 30, 2022, in the Shaw Temple African Methodist Church, 775 Hunt Road SW, Smyrna, Georgia 30082, 770-801-8185, at 11:00 a.m.
