Warren Ave, Detroit, Michigan.  This is a black-tie event with an exciting star-studded red-carpet draw hosted by Ron Dance!

This event promises to attract over 300 guests, which include cutting edge industry professionals, such cinematographers, directors and actors.  Our keynote address will be delivered by Council President Mary Sheffield. Some of the presenters include Trick Trick, Qasim Basir, Jessica Caremoor, Sino and other notable members of the film community. This event showcases Detroit’s commitment to the arts. Anyone interested or working in independent cinema and visual arts should be in attendance!

The Detroit Filmmakers Award is a cinematic organization founded by Darren L. Brown to celebrate independent film. The awards ceremony honors remarkable industry experts and personalities across the disciplines of short film, feature film, and digital series. The DFA ceremony brings a moment of reflection to those who are committed to challenging representation in film and the film industry.

As the only leading film awards organization in Detroit, the DFA honors excellence in the independent film community. It has created collaborative space to set a standard for innovation and inclusive storytelling for future filmmakers.  This event is hosted in partnership with multiple sponsors, such as Homestead Entertainment and the City of Detroit. With over 50 film submissions, the selection committees, comprised of industry experts, have released the list of nominees for each category, which can be found on the DFA’s website below.

We are thrilled to celebrate and curate an evening with the artistic expressions in film with a variety of celebrity presenters and special guests, as well as pay homage to past contributions by outstanding filmmakers and actors.
