Beef & Boards dinner Theatre presents “The King and I” through May 19.
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The King and I” Tony Award-winning Musical set in 19th century Siam. Based on Margaret Landon’s novel “Anna and the King of Siam,” the show follows the true story of Anna Loenowens, a British widow and King Mongkut, the king of Siam, after he summons her to tutor his many children and wives.
I experienced a trip down memory lane at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre with “The King and I.” As a 70’s baby who grew up watching this classic on TV, I was thrilled to catch it live, and it did not disappoint. The nostalgia hit hard, and I was delighted to share this experience with my 12-year-old son, who loved it just as much as I did.
The themed menu, curated by Chef Larry Stoops, added to the ambiance, and my son could not get enough of the noodles! Two full plates — that is a testament to their deliciousness!

The performances were outstanding, with fantastic renditions of beloved classics such as “Getting to Know You” and “Shall We Dance?” Alice Jihyun Kim, who portrayed Tuptim, stole the show for me with her powerful voice and captivating presence. However, every cast member shone brightly, bringing depth and authenticity to their characters.
My son gives this show a thumbs up, and in 12-year-old speak, that is high praise! Do not miss out on this entertaining and educational journey through cultural differences and timeless music.
