Denita Ball, Edith Hudson, Heather Wurth, and Anna Ruzinski, what do these four ladies have in common. They were all high-ranking police officers for the City of Milwaukee Police Department during their careers. Fast forward to today and Denita Ball is the acting sheriff who has just replaced Sheriff Earnell Lucas. She won the election and will be swore in as the sheriff in January when her official term starts. Sheriff Ball started a little early because Lucas resigned for another security job. Chief of Police Edith Hudson is chief at Marquette University after retiring from MPD as an assistant Chief. Chief of Police Heather Wurth is the new chief of Shorewood and just recently took over earlier this year. She is the first female police chief of that city.
U.S. Marshall Anna Ruzinski is the former Chief of Police for Menomonee Falls and a Captain for MPD. Her office is based in Milwaukee and covers southeastern Wisconsin, the Green Bay and Fox valley areas and north to the Wisconsin/Michigan border. After leaving MPD she was chief at Menomonee Falls for twelve years till nominated by President Trump in 2020. All four of these ladies show the immense talent, promise and training that the department has in its members. I have personally worked with or for all these ladies and can report they are all exceptionally good leaders. Sheriff Ball and I were partners running the entire police department at night on the night hours when the chief and the command staff were at home.
In the future I will write more in detail about some of these women because they deserve the attention. In addition, there are several male command officers from MPD that are current chiefs around the state about which I will talk. All together these officers represent the rich history, talent and the best that the department has to offer.
