Refrigerator Restock ideas

Eating better and the new year goes hand in hand, so to help you get in gear I am going to help you restock your fridge. My motto is “If it is in the house, I am going to eat it,” so I try to buy healthier choices for the home and eat the delicious, salty, carb filled stuff while I am on the go so I eat less of it.

It is better to spend the extra money eating out of the vending machine than to stock up on chips, Oreos, and other snacks. The key is to avoid buying these items in bulk. Save your bulk shopping for things like frozen fruits and vegetables, and proteins. I recommend buying fresh fruits and vegetables in limited quantities to avoid spoilage and waste.

To make sure I make better choices throughout the week, I prep all my meats, fruits, and vegetables on Sunday, so I can easily make a salad, sandwich, or enjoy a well-balanced meal. When you get hungry it is too late to go shopping and buy food and still have to cook or prepare it. I have noticed that this is when I make bad choices, when I have to get something to eat, and I am already hungry.

Here are a few items I keep on hand but pick the items you like and substitute them. Chicken is my favorite Goto meat to stock because it is so versatile. I use it to top my salad, make a sandwich or add a side like rice, beans, or pasta to it.

I use frozen fruit for smoothies and fresh fruit for salads, to add in yogurt, or to just snack on, like strawberries, apples, and lemons to add in water. Fruit will cure a sweet tooth and you can also add it to your water to help you drink more.

I like to store as many green vegetables as possible and my favorite ones are spring mix lettuce, green pepper, and cucumber. Avocados are an excellent choice, and they are full of healthy fats and antioxidants, make sure to buy some ripe ones to eat at once.

Cheese, yes please! When you get hangry, eat a slice of cheese on a cracker with some pepperoni and you won’t regret it, lol. Cheese is good on everything from sandwiches, in salad and just by itself. Make sure to stock several varieties since they last long in the fridge.

These tips will get you started, and I am sure you and your family will appreciate having healthy and delicious food choices on hand!

Have a wonderful week restocking!
