The Indiana Pacers and fans of the franchise are anticipating the 2023 NBA Draft, scheduled for Thursday, June 22. With the seventh overall pick in this year’s draft, the Pacers are hopeful that they will secure top-tier talent who can bolster their roster on the way to a playoff run.
For basketball fans, the NBA Draft is always an exciting time, as it allows teams to add new talent to their rosters. The Pacers, who finished last season with a 35-47 record, are determined to build on their success and make a playoff run.
Various talented prospects could be available when the Pacers make their selection. Victor Wembanyama, Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller are among the potential players who could be available as the seventh pick.
However, those players will likely be scooped up well before the Pacers even have a chance.
Although it is unlikely the Pacers will snag the aforementioned prospects, hopeful fans can dream.
More on the 2023 NBA Draft
Earlier this month, the Pacers invited draft standouts, such as Trayce Jackson-Davis, Mojave King and Isaiah Wong, to pre-draft workouts. Many of them performed well and could hear Adam Silver call their name on draft night.
The Pacers’ front office has invested a great deal of time in scouting players and assessing their potential fit within the team’s system. While it is a difficult decision to make, the Pacers are confident that they will find the right player who can help take them to the next level.
Moreover, the Pacers traded the 29th and 32nd overall pick to the Denver Nuggets on June 21. The Pacers received a 2024 first-round pick and the No. 40 overall pick in this year’s NBA draft.
Additionally, the Pacers traded the No. 40 overall pick to the Los Angeles Lakers for the No. 47 draft pick and cash.
Hopefully, the late-round picks materialize into a player like 2023 Finals MVP Nikola Jokic, drafted with the 41st pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Naturally, the NBA Draft is full of jaw-droppers and anything can happen on draft night. Many fans hope that the Pacers’ front office will make the moves necessary to put themselves in playoff contention as soon as 2024.
