South Central, Los Angeles–Philadelphia rapper PNB Rock lost his life today at a Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in South Central, Los Angeles due to the senseless violence that surrounds Black men in the inner city.
Born Rakim Hasheem Allen, 30, PNB Rock was shot after a robbery inside the popular soul food eatery while dining with his girlfriend.
No suspects are currently in custody.
The only description of the gunman, is someone running eastbound on foot, wearing a purple mask.
This particular Roscoe’s is in the heart of L.A’s inner city known as South Central, referred to by the city as South L.A.
Perhaps, this throws people off who are unfamiliar with L.A and folks from out of town have no idea they are in the middle of areas riddled with constant crime and turmoil.
Rappers coming to an area of Los Angeles like this are immediate targets. The local community that surrounds this Roscoe’s deal with poverty, drugs and crime daily.
These are communities still dealing with the effects of the crack epidemic, filled with Black men who are literally starving, hoping and preying on their next lick to survive until next week.
Video posted mindlessly to social media, shows PNB Rock’s last moments inside Roscoe’s after being shot several times, laying in a pool of his own blood.
He was pronounced dead shortly following the shooting around 2:00 p.m.
People continue to victim blame his girlfriend, who posted just like many women to their social media, excited to be out with their man enjoying life and eating at some of their favorite places.
I blame the shooters, the city of Los Angeles and corporate rap that continues to pollute the minds of impressionable youth and lost, Black men.
Dear rappers, the last Roscoe’s you go to is the one on Main and Manchester in the heart of the belly of the beast.
These are throw-away-sections to the city and the only help we receive is a rebranding of our communities and hyper-gentrification.
