Peacemaker dies in shooting

A man who worked to reduce violence in Indianapolis died in a shooting June 25.

John “JB” Barnett, part of the city’s peacemakers program, was found shot at around 10 p.m. on the northeast side. He was in critical condition and transported to the hospital, where he died, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

In a series of tweets, the Office of Public Health and Safety, which manages the peacemakers program, said Barnett was proud and dedicated to his community.

“One of the most important things to remember about him was his joy—the joy he brought to his children, his friends, his work, and his family,” one of the tweets read.
