The ConneXion United Methodist Church was the host for the 44th Annual Marshal’s Reception. This year, as in years past, the organization recognized two Marshals, one Trailblazer and one Civil Rights Activist for their untiring service in the community.

The Marshals for this year are Coach Ronald Booker, a retired educator with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System, and Mrs. Mercedes Wright-Arnold, a Civil Rights Activist during the 1960s. Ms. Linda Carter, a secretary for the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), is the Activist. Bishop Raphael O. Watson, who has worked with the M.L. King Observance Association alongside his grandmother for a number of years, is the Trailblazer.

The Organization also recognized the theme winners for this year. They are: First place is Jeremiah Barrett, a student at New Hampstead K-8 school. His theme is “Dr. King’s Legacy: Peace, Liberty and Justice.” Second Place is Sofia Sokolov, also a student at New Hampstead K-8 school. Her theme is “Bring Peace with Words, Not Violence.” Third place is Kadin Shaw, a senior at Woodville Tompkins. His theme is “His Dream, Our Purpose to Live in Peace and Harmony.”
