Martin Luther King was an African American Baptist minister who is well known for his I have a dream speech. He was born January 15,1929,in Atlanta, Georgia and was Assassinated on April 4,1968, in Memphis, Tennessee by a man named James Earl Ray.
In honor of his passing Stevie Wonder made a song as a tribute to him called “Happy Birthday” one of his most famous albums ever. His most famous anthem “Happy Birthday” also helped in the making of Martin Luther King’s holiday into a U.S. National holiday. In grade school we would always talk about Martin Luther King day but not so much anymore and see it as a day off work or school. When I went to a predominantly white Catholic school for the first time I was confused as to why nobody mentioned or recognized Martin Luther King day and didn’t even mention him on the announcements.
It was my last year at that school when they started talking about important black people and things that they did. Near the end of the year at that school we watched a movie called “Hidden Figures.” This movie showed what it was like back then working for white people and being someone who is that one spec because they are the only black person in the room and could relate to that. The main character Katherine Johnson who was played by actor Taraji P. Henson was mistreated for her color and white men in the workplace who were sexist and jealous of her intelligence , and even tried to take credit for her work.
Most black people have created many inventions that white people have taken credit for and make it their own but more advanced because of the technology they have to improve their inventions. Most of those black people who made those inventions are sadly forgotten which is why we continue to remember his legacy through his National US holiday.
White people throughout history have taken credit for everything and have made lies. When I was younger I thought Christopher Columbus discovered America when it was really the Native Americans and they stole their land.
Well, I hope you enjoyed, stay safe and most of all stay positive.
