Marquis Grissom was a prototypical leadoff hitter during his time in Major League Baseball. He would show some power from time to time, but his gift was the ability to get on base and make contact with the baseball.
Grissom was wanted by the majors, which was evident by the multiple teams he played for over his career. Wherever he went, teams were better for having him.
Grissom’s value was even more evident by the World Series appearances that he made over his career. On October 21, 1997, Grissom recorded a hit in his 15th straight World Series game, as the Cleveland Indians, the team Grissom was playing for at the time, would lose 14-11 to the Florida Marlins and the Indians would go on to lose this series.
