The Making A Difference Foundation (MADF) is organizing a special art event for the Eastside community of Tacoma. Alongside free food and music, attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a new mural titled “Muted Voices” on MADF’s building located at 3507 E. McKinley Ave. The event will take place on Memorial Day, Mon., May 29 from 10 am to 3 pm, and individuals of all ages are welcome to participate.

The mural, “Muted Voices,” aims to spotlight racial and cultural diversity, equity, and social justice by depicting individuals from the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community who have historically experienced marginalization and limited opportunities for their voices to be heard within the community due to systemic racism. The artwork will serve as a reminder for this diverse community and others to speak up and ensure their voices are heard.

“We are dedicated to enhancing, inspiring, and beautifying the local McKinley area neighborhood, which is also where we operate Eloise’s Cooking Pot Food Bank,” said Ahndrea Blue, President/CEO of MADF. “Through the creation of this mural, we hope to foster conversations among neighbors and community leaders, promoting open dialogue on diversity, cultural differences, equity, and inclusion—topics that will be eloquently expressed through this magnificent artwork.”

MADF is still seeking volunteers for the event, and those interested can sign up on the organization’s website at www.themadf.org.

The funding for the mural project comes from a grant awarded to MADF by the City of Tacoma’s Community Arts Projects. The mural design is the creation of artist Devona Roy. For any inquiries regarding the event, individuals can contact 253-212-2778 or email info@themadfseattle.org.
