Pittsburgh’s ultimate catering service for all things luxurious and intimate, Blanket and Board creates top-of-the-line private picnics perfect for any occasion.
A female and minority-owned business, Blanket and Board was born during the coronavirus pandemic as a way of offering classy, socially distant events to Pittsburgh residents looking for safe and celebratory options.
Tierra Thorne, design fanatic and co-owner says prior to starting the business, her main goal was to provide solace and uplifting energy to loved ones.
“Colleen and I were both doing trauma therapy and there was a lot of disengagement from our families with everyone trying to stay safe in their homes,” said Thorne. “After witnessing the protests and the pandemic, we decided to do a self-care Sunday for our loved ones so everyone could laugh, cry, or be frustrated in a safe space.”
In the span of a year, the intimate hobby between two friends and co-workers quickly outgrew neighborhood homes and expanded into a full-grown business.
“This is something that we initially thought would just be for our families and friends,” said Thorne. “We started seeing that there was interest outside of our circles that wanted to come together in a safe and socially distant way.”
It wasn’t long before the pair began meeting the new demands of city residents. Blanket and Board offers a number of different picnics, each complete with charcuterie boards, picnic blankets, tables, pillows, candles, flowers, cups, plates, an ice bucket, ice, napkins, and utensils. Clients can choose from a variety of services such as children’s parties, wedding and engagement picnics, and other special occasions.
