Local roller skater and choreographer for Disney Channel’s series “Saturdays” will be teaching skate lessons and leading public skate sessions at the OTR CRC roller rink this spring.

New and experienced skaters will drill fundamental skating skills with Morton in an hour-long workshop, followed by a two-hour open skate session that allows skaters to practice in the longstanding skating rink inside the Over-the-Rhine Recreation Center, known as “The Hub” to longtime OTR residents. The workshop is tailored to first-time skaters and those looking to get back into skating.

Morton’s focus is on building confidence through fundamental skill instruction and safety. In this workshop skaters can expect to learn how to skate forward/backward, how to crossover, and different ways to stop. The beginner workshop is family-friendly and all ages are welcome.  Participants can register online to secure a spot or pay at the door. The $20 registration fee includes the workshop, rental skates, bottled water, and admission to the open skate session that follows. Friday night open skate sessions at the OTR CRC are free for CRC members.

Dylan Morton is a professional roller skater and Riedell Superstar born and raised in Cincinnati. He has dedicated much of his time learning and training in various different styles of roller skating: jam skating, rhythm skating, JB, New York, and partner skating. While finding his passion for skating he also discovered his love for pairing roller skates with dancing, tumbling and teaching. Morton has been teaching roller skating for the past six years, most recently as a choreographer for the new skate-centric Disney Channel series “Saturdays” which premiers Friday, March 24 at  8:30 p.m.

“Teaching, for me, is such a huge responsibility that I take on with a lot of pride.” said Morton. “To be able to pass on my knowledge of skating to others around the world has been a tremendous pleasure and a gift that continues to give. I hope that through my skill sharing, others will be inspired to be the best skater and person they can be.”
