Lee’s Summit Residents Demand Resignation of Racist, Right-Wing Extremist School Board Member Bill Haley

LEE’S SUMMIT, MO – Outrage is growing across the Lee’s Summit community as demands escalate for the immediate resignation of Bill Haley, a far-right extremist school board member, following a pattern of blatantly racist, discriminatory, and dangerous behaviors.

Haley’s latest stunt at a Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation event—a grotesque display of a “Redneck Lives Matter” flag draped across his table, complete with spent gun shell casings—has ignited a firestorm of outrage from both parents and students.

Former Lee’s Summit R-7 School Board President, Rodrick Sparks, didn’t hold back in his condemnation of Haley’s actions. In an impassioned Facebook post, Sparks laid bare the dangers posed by Haley’s flagrant disregard for decency and safety:

I am deeply disappointed by the decision of Mr. Bill Haley, LSR7 School Board Member, to display a “Rednecks Lives Matter” flag with spent shell casings at an event hosted by the Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation, whose leadership is funded by taxpayers of all races, cultures, and backgrounds. The connotation of that flag is offensive and seeks to mock the protest movement against police brutality and civil rights abuses. This action shows a blatant disregard for the values of professionalism and inclusivity that we strive to uphold in our community.

Sparks’s words resonate with the community’s widespread dismay, as parents, students, and teachers grapple with the reality of a school leader who mocks the Black Lives Matter movement while glorifying gun violence. One teacher’s reaction on social media encapsulated the collective disgust:

“As an LSR7 teacher, I am disgusted and disappointed. This is not acceptable.”

But this is just the latest chapter in the dark saga of Bill Haley—a self-proclaimed ‘shooter’ and owner of On Target LLC Ammunition. Haley’s identity is steeped in right-wing extremism, fanatic gun worship, and homophobic hate. His business proudly declares, “We Are Shooters,” a chilling motto for someone charged with overseeing the safety and education of our children.

Community Outrage Ignites: Calls for Haley’s Resignation Grow Louder

In response to Haley’s vile display, a petition demanding his resignation has been launched, titled “Support Resignation of Lee’s Summit School Board Member Bill Haley.” It opens reading;

“We, the undersigned members of the Lee’s Summit community, are calling for the immediate resignation of Bill Haley from his position on the Lee’s Summit School Board. Mr. Haley’s recent decision to display gunshot bullet casings and a ‘Redneck Lives Matter’ flag at an event hosted by the Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation is deeply troubling and unacceptable. His actions not only undermine the ethical standards expected of a school board member but also foster division and distrust within our community.”

Haley’s Christo-Fascist Backers: A Network of Hate

Haley didn’t rise to power alone. His campaign was strongly supported by We the People of Eastern Jackson County—a racist, right-wing extremist hate group—as well as the Christo-fascist, extremist political powerhouse, Abundant Life Church.

For reference, We the People of Eastern Jackson County is the same group that knowingly invited disgraced Missouri ex-Governor Eric Greitens to speak at their event, after he had resigned in disgrace due to national pressure surrounding his horrifying allegations of rape and sexual violence. According to a state House investigation, Greitens blindfolded a woman, taped her to exercise equipment in his basement, and ripped open her shirt while pulling down her pants to her ankles—against her will. While she cried and begged to be let go, Greitens allegedly raped her.

Knowing this about Greitens, We the People still invited him as a primary guest speaker in their 2022 MAGA event.

Greitens’ association with We the People of Eastern Jackson County underscores the vile connections that empower figures like Bill Haley.

Similarly, Abundant Life church is equally dangerous; it’s a virulently homophobic and transphobic institution that has strategically placed three of its members, including Haley, on the LSR7 school board.

In 2019, teachers protested the district’s decision to hold events at this unwelcoming space. Abundant Life’s lead pastor, Phil Hopper, has even testified in favor of a Missouri constitutional amendment to allow businesses to deny service to same-sex couples, under the guise of religious freedom.

Both of Haley’s backers, We the People of Eastern Jackson County and Abundant Life Church, are committed to injecting hate, violence, and fear into the community under the guise of protecting “traditional values.”

The Fight for Lee’s Summit’s Soul

This isn’t just about one racist school board member. As we’ve seen with radical, right-wing extremist movements in education across the country, this is about the soul and future of Lee’s Summit. Bill Haley and his Christo-fascist backers are pushing an extremist, bigoted, hate-filled and dangerous agenda that threatens the safety and inclusivity of our schools.

The community must stand united, demanding not only Haley’s resignation but also a thorough examination of the insidious forces that have wormed their way into our school board.

The time for polite disagreement is over. This is a battle against hate, and for our children, and it’s one that Lee’s Summit must win.
