Kwame Kilpatrick will sign copies of his new book, Off The Grid: The Journey Back to Destiny during Light Up Livernois, Detroit’s fashion, art, and design street festival this weekend. His book signing is from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, July 2 inside the event’s hospitality suite at The Pop Up Shop located on 19410 Livernois Avenue in Detroit.

Also available on Amazon and as an e-book, there are multiple ways for readers to purchase copies. Kilpatrick will be on hand at the festival, to showcase the art of literature, as he autographs purchased physical copies. Published independently on December 21, 2021, Kilpatrick wrote the book to share his story, and how important -and possible- it is to get back up when you fall.

“Often when people fall too many times in our community they’re out of the game for good. It’s important for people who ascend to certain heights -and fall- to learn that there are ways they can always redeem themselves,” said Rufus Bartell, Light Up Livernois co-producer, and host of the book signing.

“Being able to give ourselves examples of that through other people’s challenges is critical so that when we meet our own challenges, we have a roadmap and a certain kind of faith that this (redemption) can be done. Mr. Kilpatrick is on a biblical path. If there is such a thing as a debt to pay, he’s on the road to pay it ten times over,” said Bartell.

Kilpatrick wrote the book for himself and is willing to share his story with anyone who is willing to listen. His story speaks directly to those who have struggled, and those who have struggles. It provides hope, inspiration, and proof that there can be an inner awakening, ‘light’ at the other side of life’s trials, and that redemption is possible.

The Light Up Livernois event is produced by non-profit, Independent Business Association Detroit Community Development Corporation (IBA Detroit CDC). Rufus Bartell is the organization’s president.
IBA Detroit CDC is a volunteer membership 501(c)(3) organization. Members are business owners who live in and are passionate about Detroit.
