Council Member Carolyn King Arnold was elected mayor pro tem and Council Member Omar Narvaez was elected as deputy mayor pro tem by the Dallas City Council.

“It’s an honor to receive the support and enthusiasm of my colleagues in this new role. It is crucial for the City Council to reflect and represent our constituents, and for Black women to be seen and heard in positions of leadership,” King Arnold said.

Commenting on his election, Council Member Narvaez said, “Thank you to my colleagues, this was a surprise. I pledge to work hard and build relationships in order to help heal and unite this council in order to move the business of the residents of Dallas forward. I do love this city with all my heart and love serving on the Council.”

Mayor Pro Tem King Arnold and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Narvaez will take these roles following the adjournment of the June 22 Council meeting to reflect the results of the election.

Both applauded the work and leadership of Mayor Pro Tem West and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Resendez.
