Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx went to court Thursday to make new requests regarding the Jussie Smollett case.

In a move many have been waiting for, Foxx requested that a judge unseal documents in the case so that the Cook County Office of Independent Inspector General can review them. It doesn’t look as if the public will have access to those documents.

Foxx’s request would allow the office to conduct its investigation of how the case was handled and whether the state’s attorney’s office did anything improper.

A judge will make a ruling on May 23, the same date a decision will be made on several media organizations’ emergency motion to unseal the documents pertaining to the dismissal of 16 counts against Smollett, who was accused of staging a racist attack on himself in January.
