Karine Jean-Pierre Named First Black White House Press Secretary & Biden Assistant

Jen Psaki is set to leave her role as White House press secretary next week and Karine Jean-Pierre has been appointed to her role under the Biden Administration. Jean-Pierre is Haitian and was born in Martinique, a Caribbean island in France that is estimated to be comprised of 80% African and African-Indian.

Jean-Pierre currently serves as the White House’s principal deputy press secretary. In a statement released by President Joe Biden today, he also revealed that Jean-Pierre will also act as his assistant.

Her experience in communications spans decades as a former political analyst for NBC and MSNBC. She is also a former lecturer in international and public affairs at Columbia University.

Jean-Pierre is also an author.
