Savannah State University (SSU) is celebrating Homecoming 2022 with a weeklong schedule of events themed “We are Significant. Steadfast. Unstoppable.” Notable events include the coronation of Mr. and Miss Savannah State University, a Golf Scramble and Greek Step Show, culminating with the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 8. The SSU Tigers host the Virginia University of Lynchburg Dragons in T. A. Wright Stadium with kickoff at 3 p.m. “We are excited to welcome alumni and friends back home for the biggest tailgate in the South,” said Moncello Stewart, Homecoming Committee Chair. “Our annual fish fry and yard fest events promise a lot of fun, and we can’t wait to crown our new Mr. and Miss Savannah State University.”
Sunday began the week of festivities with a “Colors of The Jungle” Run Party, which began at Alexis Circle and ended at the practice field. Continuing the coloring events, Monday began with the “Coloring of The Fountain” on Hill Hall steps and ended with a Food Truck Fest “Pass the Plates.” The residential step show in Tiger Area, “Clawchella,” was Tuesday.
Wednesday is the “Tiger Bash” Pep Rally at 9 PM. Thursday is the 2022 Coronation, an all white affair in Tiger Arena at 7pm.
On Friday, “Tiger Gras” kicks off the weekend in Alexis Circle with an on-campus parade, yard fest, and alumni greek stroll off from 12pm to 6pm.
On Saturday, the Annual SSU Homecoming Parade returns to the streets beginning at 9 a.m. At 3 p.m. the Tigers head to the football field where they will play the Dragons of Virginia University of Lynchburg. Tailgating begins at noon.
This year’s Homecoming Concert will feature Big Charm, Bread, Gorilla, Lil Poppa, Nardo Wick, No Cap, and Tokyo Jetz.
The last event will begin at 6 pm on Sunday for “Worship Unleashed” with the Wesleyan Gospel Choir.
