Great Parks Summer Camp registrations now open

Children and teenagers have the chance to explore nonstop nature in the wide open spaces of Great Parks through a variety of 2023 summer day camps, which opened for registration on Jan. 30, at greatparks.org.
Great Parks camps carry campers to wild outdoor moments and away from the normal summer routine. Camp options are available in all areas of the county, covering a range of interests.
For example, at Winton Woods, kayak and canoe classes will teach participants skills for enjoying the water on both lakes and rivers, including important maneuvering and safety tips. These camps take place on beautiful Winton Lake, where resident birds, fish, turtles and other wildlife will make appearances, too.
The “Growing Up a Farm Kid” camps on Parky’s Farm in Winton Woods introduce participants to the educational farm’s animals, such as ducks, goats, bees and butterflies.
The “Hidden Life Among Us” camp in Miami Whitewater Forest will reveal plants and animals that may be just out of sight, but still play critical roles in our ecosystem. Great Parks offers fishing camps at Lake Isabella and photography camps at Sharon Woods. Parky’s Farm also hosts horse camps, which are always extremely popular. Additional camp options are available at Woodland Mound and Fernbank Park.
The first summer camps begin in late May, with the final camps wrapping up in August. Camps are available for ages ranging from 6-20 years old. Most summer camps run four or five days. Fees are as low as $150.
Great Parks Forever, the philanthropic partner for Great Parks, offers scholarship opportunities for camp participants. In addition, the Caleb Simpson Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to help participants enjoy the many wild spaces of Great Parks. More information is available at greatparks.org.
