Gov. Parson Breaks Silence & Signals Likely Pardon for Racist Killer Cop Eric Devalkenaere
On the verge of pardoning the first cop in Missouri’s history convicted of killing a Black man, Gov. Parson's recent comments on a far-right extremist radio show expose his white supremacist intentions, signaling a grave injustice for the Black community. The post Gov. In a stunning and infuriating development, right-wing extremist Missouri Governor Mike Parson, in his final months of office, has all but promised a pardon or commutation for Eric DeValkenaere, the former Kansas City police detective convicted of killing Cameron Lamb, a Black man.
Parson’s comments, made during a far-right extremist radio show hosted by Pete Mundo, reveal a blatant disregard for justice and a full-throated support for brutal, anti-Black police violence.
Governor Parson, a former Polk County sheriff, expressed his disapproval of DeValkenaere’s incarceration, stating, “I don’t like where he’s at,” and further hinted that a decision regarding DeValkenaere’s sentence is imminent. This marks the most explicit support Parson has shown for DeValkenaere since the officer’s conviction, signaling a likely intervention after the November election to avoid political backlash.
DeValkenaere was convicted in 2021 of second-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action for the 2019 murder of 26-year-old Cameron Lamb. Lamb was shot and killed in his own backyard while backing his truck into his garage—an act of violence that epitomizes the vicious brutalization and everyday violence inflicted by the KCPD.
DeValkenaere’s conviction was historic, as he became the first white police officer in Missouri ever convicted of killing a Black man. This milestone was not achieved without immense struggle; it was the result of tireless efforts by the Kansas City community, activists, and Lamb’s family, who fought against a system designed to protect cops at all costs.
Despite the Missouri Supreme Court’s decision to uphold DeValkenaere’s conviction, leaving a gubernatorial pardon or commutation as his only hope, Parson’s recent comments suggest that the governor is poised to act in favor of the convicted killer. “There’s not a week that goes by that somebody’s not reaching out to me about that issue, and we’re going to see what happens here before long,” Parson said during the interview, adding, “But you know I don’t like where he’s at. I’ll just say that.”
Parson’s sympathy for DeValkenaere is not just a personal opinion—it’s a clear indicator of the racist double standards at the root of Missouri’s injustice system. While DeValkenaere, a white cop who murdered a Black man, may soon walk free, Marcellus “Khaliifah” Williams, an innocent Black man proven by DNA evidence to have been wrongfully convicted, faces execution in less than 70 days.
The timing of Parson’s comments is also suspect. With his term coming to an end and the November election looming, it’s likely that Parson will wait until after the election to make his explosive decision, avoiding the immediate political fallout.
The winner of the Republican primary, Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe, has already voiced support for DeValkenaere, further indicating that the Missouri GOP is aligned with protecting racist killer cops rather than upholding justice.
The implications of Parson’s potential decision cannot be overstated. Should he choose to pardon DeValkenaere, it would not only undermine the rule of law but also serve as a “license to kill” for other racist cops who will know they can kill Black people with impunity. This is not only a fight for justice for Cameron Lamb—this is a fight for life of Black people all across the state.
We must stand united against this horrifying miscarriage of justice.
Call Governor Parson’s office today and demand that he deny a pardon for Eric DeValkenaere. Let him know that the blood of Cameron Lamb and the potential state-sanctioned murder of Marcellus Williams is on his hands. We cannot and will not stand by as this racist system continues to sacrifice Black lives on the altar of white supremacy.
