Georgia Supreme Court Rejects Trump’s Request to Bar Prosecution

The ruling came in early Monday from Georgia’s Supreme Court rejecting a request from Donald Trump to prevent prosecution for trying to overturn his loss in the 2020 presidential election tally. The former president is at present dealing with trials over hush money allegations in New York state and claims he mishandled classified documents in Florida.

On Monday, the highest Georgia state court decided in a unanimous order to refuse Trump’s attorneys filing last week that asked the court to discard a special grand jury report and that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be halted from seeking charges.

Trump called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in January 2021 to plead with him to “find” the votes he needed to win the state. This triggered an investigation by Willis. It was not one or two calls; Trump tried to call Brad more than a dozen times. However, his calls were not answered by the official. The district attorney has suggested she may seek charges in the case in August. The special grand jury recommended indicting more than a dozen people.
