Financial Guru and Philanthropist, Toi Salter,  to be Honored at UNCF “A Mind Is…” Gala

As the President and CEO of Salter Financial Management whose clients include various NBA All-Stars, Toi Salter has truly made an impact on the progression and investment of young black collegiates. In 2017, Salter joined the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), which rewards $100 million annually in college scholarships to students throughout the nation. In 2019, Salter became the first African-American woman to raise over $1.1 Million Dollars for UNCF Chicago’s “A Mind Is…” Gala without a co-chair. She then swept through the following year by bringing in a whopping $1.6 million to support Chicago senior students’ pursuit of higher education. To date, Salter has raised over $2.9 million for UNCF since her involvement with the organization.

As an individual who has certainly played an instrumental role in the contributions benefiting scholars and consistently going above and beyond expectations, Salter is the 2022 recipient of the UNCF Annual “A Mind Is…” Gala Trailblazer Award. “I was really surprised…and happy that they decided to honor me,” said Salter. “When I look at what a trailblazer is, that is someone who has created a path where one did not exist before… Since I’ve opened up another pathway so that others who are coming behind [who] have the heart for raising money for scholarships, they can see that it is possible for one individual to be able to raise that kind of money…so I am honored to receive this award.”

As a professional wealth and business manager, Salter also gave some advice for managing finances in this current financial climate (the sky-rocketing gas prices and dramatic increases in groceries or produce): “Save more than you spend. Live within your means not your dreams.”

The UNCF  “A Mind Is…” Gala is returning in person for the first time since COVID. The Gala will take place on Saturday, June 18th, 2022 in the Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency (151 E Wacker Dr, Chicago, IL 60601). The festivities will begin with a reception at 6:00 p.m. CDT, with dinner and the full program kicking off at 7:00 p.m.
