Dr. Pamela Pugh of Saginaw, Michigan has announced her candidacy for United States Senate. Pugh served as the chief public health officer for the City of Flint at the height of the Flint Water Crisis. She is also in her second term on the Michigan State Board of Education, where she was elected president by her peers in January of this year.
Pugh is seeking to occupy the seat that will soon be abandoned by Senator Debbie Stabenow, who announced earlier this year that she will not be seeking re-election.
“I believe we are at a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, and the people of Michigan deserve a dedicated fighter who will tirelessly work to meet the challenges of our time” Pugh stated.
If elected Pugh will serve as the first African American senator to represent Michigan.
