Special to The Dallas Examiner

Dallas Independent School District will host its annual Discover Dallas ISD event Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at W.H. Adamson High School, located at 309 E. Nineth St. Families from all over the city can learn about the district’s choice programs and apply on site with the help of staff, step by step. This is the largest opportunity fair in the city.

Dallas ISD offers a variety of programs, and students at choice schools consistently perform at or above the level of their peers. Programs include innovation at its best to exceptional academics, extracurricular and after-school opportunities and safe learning environments. Options include programs such as Montessori, International Baccalaureate, Talented and Gifted, Single Gender, Two-Way Dual Language, STEM/STEAM, Visual and Performing Arts, P-TECH/Early College High Schools, Career Institutes, Collegiate Academies and much more.

For families interested in learning about what a choice program is and how it can advance their student’s education, there will be informative presentations with everything they need to know before applying. After exploring options and selecting their preferred school, families can complete applications during the event.

These programs, like all Dallas ISD schools, offer extracurricular activities, transportation, modern learning installations and a quality education, all for free. The district is rapidly becoming a district of choice where every child can find a school that best fits their unique interests, needs and aspirations. The academic options offered are as diverse as the learners themselves and many of the top-tier programs offered at private schools in the area can be found in Dallas ISD free of charge.

Dallas ISD is home to 230 neighborhood schools with more than 100 choice schools and specialty programs that prepare students for success now and in the future.

At the high school level, students have an opportunity to get ahead and begin preparing for their college education. Incoming freshmen students can begin gaining valuable experience in a professional pathway of their choice where they can simultaneously earn 60 hours of tuition-free college credits and a high school diploma.

In addition to many open-enrollment schools of choice, the district offers a variety of choice programs and models at neighborhood schools similar to those offered at Transformation Schools and Magnets. Neighborhood school programs can include computer science, robotics, single-gender models, exploratory arts programs and dual-language, plus more.
