The Chicago Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter (CMAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, is pulling out all the stops to celebrate 112 years of sisterhood, service, and social impact. With a dynamic lineup of events spanning from Jan. 13 to Jan. 25, the chapter’s “Impact Week 2025” honors the organization’s rich legacy while focusing on issues affecting the community today.
Founded on Jan. 13, 1913, by 22 college women at Howard University, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has grown into a powerhouse of social and political activism, with members including Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Poet Nikki Giovanni, and Journalist Joy-Ann Reid. CMAC, chartered in 2020, continues this tradition in Chicago, serving the community through initiatives aligned with Delta’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust.
A Legacy of Service
The week kicked off on Jan. 13 with “22 Moments of Prayer” on Facebook Live, followed by “Energize & Thrive 365” on Jan. 15—a night of wellness that combined dance, deep breathing, and health discussions at the Mayfair Arts Center. On Jan. 16, attendees gathered for “Beyond the Chains of Silence,” a sobering yet empowering event focused on sex trafficking awareness, featuring a panel of experts and survivors at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.
