Dallas residents to receive FREE trees to celebrate Dallas Arbor Day

Special to The Dallas Examiner

As part of the Branch Out Dallas program and to celebrate Dallas Arbor Day, the city of Dallas will distribute free five-gallon trees to Dallas residents who registered for this event.

This year, residents selected from six tree species including Mexican oak, sycamore, redbud, American elm, cedar elm, and chinquapin oak, to plant in their yards. These Texas trees were chosen for their hardiness and regional suitability. Trees benefit the environment by reducing stormwater runoff to drainage systems, cooling temperatures, improving air quality, and mitigating the heat island effect.

The is available through partnerships with individual volunteers and civic/corporate groups to distribute the trees to residents. Anyone interested in volunteering on Nov. 5 may send an email to branchoutdallas@dallas.gov with contact information and preferred tree distribution location.

During the Arbor Day event, registered residents can pick up their trees from the following six distribution locations from 9 a.m. to noon:

  • Shelton School at 17301 Preston Road
  • Marsh Lane Baptist Church at 10716 Marsh Lane
  • White Rock Church of Christ at 9220 Ferguson Road
  • Tyler Street UMC at 927 W. 10th St.
  • Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep Innovation Center at 9701 San Leon Ave.
  • Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic School at 4019 S. Hampton Road
