Cupcakes for a cause

Indianapolis is about to get a whole lot sweeter with the Ultimate Cupcake Festival, a family friendly event designed to satisfy sweet tooths for a good cause.

Cupcake lovers from all over the city will converge to indulge in sugary delights while supporting H.E.R. Living Campus, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women through housing and educational resources.

People of all ages will gather from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the H.E.R. Living Campus grounds. Top bakers are nominated to participate, and each prepares more than 1000 cupcakes for the event.

“You really get to see (the bakers’) creativity in their work,” said LeTava Mabilijengo, chief administrator at H.E.R. Living Campus and founder of the festival.

Patrons can taste samplings and vote for the best cupcake. The event will also feature a live DJ, kids’ zone, adult lounge and interactive games.

“We are very intentional about setting up the festival so parents can see where everything is and feel comfortable,” Mabilijengo said. “We think it’s an affordable day for the whole family.”

The tickets for adults are $5 each, and children are $3. The money from ticket sales will go to benefit the outdoor youth programs at H.E.R. Living Campus. Each summer, they can take up to 19 organizations on camping outings to explore immersive learning and teach children about the importance of nature.

“What we have found is a lot of youth programs can’t always afford to offer (kids) these experiences,” Mabilijengo said.

Mabilijengo encourages patrons to go online at herlivingcampus.ticketleap.com/ultimatecupcake2024 to purchase tickets prior to the event.

“This event is like old-school fun where you see inter-generations having good fun and enjoying each other,” Mabilijengo said. “It’s like home.”
