According to the American Diabetes Association, 13 percent of all African Americans aged 20 years or older have been diagnosed with diabetes. African Americans are also twice as likely to be diagnosed with Type two diabetes. Known as a silent killer, diabetes has taken the lives of many. One organization seeks to put a stop to that. Launching today, The Suga Project, LLC seeks to open up the dialogue within the African American community about Type 2 diabetes and bring more awareness to healthy lifestyles.

“The numbers are startling,” said Natalie Pauls, founder. “African Americans are four times more likely to have an amputation due to diabetes complications. African American women are dying at rates greater than any other group of women in history.”

The Suga Project, LLC seeks to course correct and bring more awareness to managing type two diabetes or helping African Americans decrease the risk of developing it.

When it comes to managing type two diabetes, self-education and self-management is key.

The Suga Project, LLC has created three separate offerings designed to empower those living with diabetes and guide them towards a healthier, more proactive lifestyle:

* “Four Critical Steps to Managing Diabetes” course
* Mastering Diabetes – Monthly Membership
* Mastering Diabetes – Annual Membership
