On September 9, 2022, Chatham County Commission Chairman Chester Ellis gave the oath of office to the 2022–2023 Chatham County Youth Commission. 13 of these amazing young people will join 13 returning members of the Commission.
The Chatham County Youth Commission is a nationally recognized governmental youth engagement program for high school students that was founded by Dr. Priscilla D Thomas in 1991. Since that time, over 1,100 young people have graduated from the program. Additionally, counties and the cities across the country have replicated the Chatham County model. Mayor Van Johnson has led this program for the past 27 years.
