The Indianapolis Black Documentary Film Festival and Martin University will host a Black History Month event Feb. 10-11, which will showcase films about the national and international contributions of Black people.
The event will be at Martin University’s Gathertorium, 2186 N. Sherman Drive. Tickets cost $7 for each individual film and $15 for the festival package, and food trucks will be there.
The films are:
“100 Years from Mississippi” — Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
This is a documentary that follows Mamie Lang Kirkland, a 111-year-old African American woman who returns to Mississippi a century after she survived racial terrorism.
“Taking Israel” — Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.
This documentary follows Wilberforce University students who traveled to Israel and witnessed the political and social changes in the country.
“This is [Not] Who We Are” — Feb. 11 at 3 p.m.
This documentary explores the difference between Boulder, Colorado’s “progressive self-image” in comparison to the lived experiences of its Black community.
