Black Voters Matter Kicks Off $15M Fall GOTV Campaign To Mobilize 10 Million Black Voters Ahead Of Critical Election

Through the “We Fight Back” bus tour, the national voting rights organization aims to engage millions of Black voters in 12 key states across the country

ATLANTA — This week, Black Voters Matter (BVM) will launch its fall 2024 “We Fight Back” GOTV campaign, investing money, time and capacity building to rally Black voters and amplify the issues at the heart of the election that will impact Black communities, including education, economic justice and healthcare access and equity. With goals to engage 10 million voters across 12 target states, the $15 million investment spans a multi-state ad campaign, voter activations, and partner grants. BVM is turning out for democracy and ensuring that voters have the tools and information they need to be heard during this consequential election.

Upcoming tour stops will include Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, and Georgia, with more locations to be announced.

The political environment has evolved drastically in the last two months, with a switch-up at the top of the ticket reinvigorating voters and again thrusting the Black electorate into the national spotlight. At the same time, Black voters are still seeking progress and security on the issues that they care about and touch their everyday lives, including student debt cancellation, affordable housing, healthcare and reproductive rights, and police accountability. Black voters are looking for candidates with a vision, but also policies that lead to measurable differences and remedies for long-standing injustices.

Black voters will play a critical role in elections even in the face of attempts to diminish their power. Disinformation still disproportionately targets voters of color, with AI making content more deceptive and sophisticated. Extreme state legislatures across the country are doubling down on suppressive tactics, whether access to the ballot box, critical healthcare — reproductive or otherwise, and even certain educational subjects in schools. We Fight Back will serve as a broad call to action, unifying local and national voting rights organizations, celebrities, social justice advocates, faith leaders, and HBCU students in a battle for hard-earned fundamental freedoms. The campaign will also build on recent momentum around federal voting rights protections as BVM has long stood behind the push for the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act.

BVM will be on the ground in the states where Black communities are under threat and the states that could flip the presidential race. From block parties to canvassing to Souls to the Polls events, BVM seeks to reach Black residents from all walks of life, engaging them intentionally around the issues they most care about. Whether issues of education, income inequality or healthcare justice, the election could produce dramatically different outcomes, and Black communities will feel disproportionate impacts.

“If the last couple of months have shown us anything, it’s that Black voters are crucial to shaping the direction of this country,” said Cliff Albright, co-founder and executive director of Black Voters Matter. “Black voters will show up because our issues are on the ballot. This ticket represents the change that we want to see and gives a sense of hope to our communities. We’re in the streets doing the work to inform our communities of suppressive tactics and misinformation because our people matter. We will fight back against racism, injustice and all attempts to take us back.”

“Black voters have always led the way, and this election is no exception.” said LaTosha Brown, co-founder of Black Voters Matter. “The energy around this history-making ticket is clear, and we’re on the ground harnessing that power, translating it to real change at the ballot box. Black voters know what progress looks like, and we won’t settle for less — we will fight back against hatred and division. This election cycle, our voices and votes will be what move this country forward.”

The bus is now on the move throughout the country, and the public and media alike are encouraged to join on the ground and take part in the activities. Those interested can visit the BVM website for the most up-to-date schedule of events.
