Black Voters Matter Announces 2025 BVM Days At The Capitol

GEORGIA – With a hyper-focus on local politics in 2025, Black Voters Matter (BVM) is set to hold its annual BVM Day at the Capitol across nine states including Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, North Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania to advocate for meaningful legislative action on key issues directly impacting marginalized predominately Black communities. BVM Days at the Capitol are scheduled to begin on February 25th and run through May. The annual days at the Capitol will bring together state and local partners, community leaders, stakeholders, and concerned citizens to engage with policymakers and advocate for critical policy changes at the state level.

Given the current political climate, BVM is committed now more than ever to fighting for and protecting the rights of Black and marginalized voters. While this new administration’s strategy has ushered in a whirlwind of chaos and confusion to distract voters, BVM is focused on local organizing and demanding accountability from lawmakers elected to fight for our interests and stand up to the oligarchs in Washington.

Through our organizing efforts, Black voters have consistently voiced concerns over specific issue areas that are a top priority during BVM Days at the Capitol. Issue areas include:

  • Voting Rights: voter access and restoration of rights
  • Education: funding for K-12 public schools and HBCUs
  • Environmental Justice: Climate and high utility costs
  • Healthcare: closing the coverage gap for uninsured populations
  • Reproductive Freedom
  • Criminal Justice reform
  • Public Safety: Gun violence
  • DEI policies
  • Economic Justice

“We know the issues that Black communities face don’t start or stop on Election Day. Our work to build power in communities across the country continues 365 days a year.” Said Cliff Albright, co-founder and executive director of Black Voters Matter. “BVM Days at the Capitol is another opportunity to show our collective power to shape local policies that influence policy decisions on the federal level.  We’re here to remind Black voters that while we are living in unprecedented times, we’ve seen this type of fascism before. White supremacy isn’t new; we know how to FIGHT BACK because we’ve done it before.  It’s time for us to organize and hold local leaders accountable.”
