Family and friends were fortunate enough to celebrate the 105th birthday of Anna Laura Lewis on February 19, 2023.  On May 4, 2023, the good Lord took his faithful servant home.

Anna Laura Lewis (nee Logan) was born to the union of William Logan and Anna Lyle Logan (nee Langford), in Cincinnati, Ohio, on February 19, 1918.  She was one of seven children – Arthur Jones, Robert Logan, Sylvanora Heard, Severena Davis, William Logan (her twin brother) and Henry Logan – all of whom preceded her in death.

Anna was united in marriage to Robert Allen and they had two daughters – Sara E. Stripling (m. Joseph) (both who preceded her in death) and Eleanora F. Clark.  Later in life, she married Madison Lewis, who also preceded her in death in 1987.

Mrs. Lewis attended Catholic school in Cincinnati.  She worked for Dr. Warden and his family for over seven years, and also lived in Buffalo, New York, and Bath, Maine, before returning to Cincinnati.  In later years, she volunteered with Catholic Social Services and the Senior Companion Program, where she received numerous awards for her Outstanding Volunteer services.

In 2015, Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley proclaimed “Anna Lewis Day” in honor of her 97th birthday.

Mrs. Lewis was a faithful member of the St. Stephens AME church, and later united with the New Friendship Baptist Church, which she attended for over 20 years.  She joined and was baptized at The Vineyard, which she faithfully attended until the pandemic.

She was affectionately known as “Nannie” by her family.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by Eleanora Clark, her daughter and loving caregiver, her granddaughter, Angela Mitchell (Michael), grandson Jonathan Stripling.  Her grandson Anthony Ralls (Denise) preceded her in death.  She also leaves to cherish her memories three nephews – George Frank Heard, Charles Heard, Cecil Heard, and niece – Michaele Logan.  Her nephews William Davis and Norman Heard preceded her in death.  “Nannie” had eight great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild, and a host of relatives, family and friends.
