Fair Park Blues & Jazz Festival returns

 

The fifth Fair Park Blues & Jazz Festival, with some of North Texas’ most renowned jazz and blues artists, will be held Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. at the African American Museum, located at 3536 Grand Ave.

The lineup will include Mahogany The Artist, Herbie K. Johnson, Rob Holbert, Joyce Lofton, R. L. Griffin, The Legendary Creators and Corrian & The Crew.

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Food vendors will be on site at the festival.

Tickets can be purchased at FairParkTix.com or at the door. Parking is free at Gate 5. Proceeds benefit the museum’s youth educational program. For more information, visit https://www.aamdallas.org.

 

Call for Students to submit art for Hispanic Heritage Month display

Local student artists are invited to display their artwork at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, located at 2922 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and during the MLK Hispanic Heritage Festival on Oct. 1. The artwork be on display inside of the center from Sept. 14 to Oct. 15.

Artwork should represent or reflect the diversity of Hispanic and Latino culture. Submissions can incorporate (but are not limited to) historical leaders, country flags or colors, decorative masks, etc. or it can be one’s own personal self-expression. Art will be displayed based on the appropriateness of the project. Acceptable mediums include paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics and textiles.

Students should submit artwork to the center along with the following details:

  • Artist Name
  • School
  • Grade
  • Art Title
  • Description of artwork

Students can pick up their art Oct. 17.
