William M. Raines High School (Raines) and Jean Ribault High School (Ribault) join forces to host a combined 5k Role Model Joint Tie Tying Ceremony at the Legends Community Center.  Twenty-five male students from the two schools were inducted into the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project.

Before the tying ceremony, Duval County School Board members Darryl Willie (district 4) and Chairman Warren Jones (District 5) presented a School Board District progress update and report. The event was just two days following Jones’ swearing in as chairman of the Duval County school Board. Ten men including Willie and Jones were also inducted into the 5k Role Model as mentors.
The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project is a dropout prevention, mentoring program committed to closing the minority male achievement (access) gap by guiding minority male students along a carefully charted path through grades K-12 and college or ensuring the attainment of other post-secondary credentials, and increasing their employability in higher wage, high skills jobs within high demand industries.
“It was a powerful event to see these young men submit to themselves, their schools and their communities.  It’s a reflection of what’s possible when we wrap our arms around our young people,” said Board member Darryl Willie.
