The Atlanta Hawks were in the second quarter of their Las Vegas Summer League game against the Portland Trailblazers on Sunday when during a in-game interview first-year head coach Lloyd Pierce revealed to ESPN commentators that he and second-year forward John Collins agreed to end his summer after Sunday’s game.

Pierce told the story of he and Collins talking after Utah Summer League last week and agreeing on getting Collins off the court after two games in Las Vegas.

Collins scored a game-high 30 points (4-7 three-pointers) during the Hawks loss to the New York Knicks on Saturday.

He had 10 points on 4-10 shooting with four rebounds and a blocked shot in 15 minutes of play during the first half against Portland.

Under current Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer Collins averaged 10.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and a block per game last season, starting 26 of his 74 games.

Collins is expected to be a huge piece of the Hawks rebuilding process alongside forward Taurean Prince and guards Dennis Schroder (two years remining on current contract) and 2018 fifth overall pick Trae Young who sat out the seocnd half of Sunday’s game with what was called a thigh contusion.
