A Crawfordville woman was arrested in Gainesville early Saturday morning after police say she smoked crack in front of her minor daughter before abandoning her in order to score more drugs, according to a GPD report.

Police reported that Amber Nichole Bryan, 30, of Crawfordville, had smoked crack cocaine in front of her minor daughter sometime before midnight Saturday before telling the girl to remain in the back seat of a truck, saying that she would return in five minutes.

After 30 minutes had passed, the child called law enforcement to report being left alone by her mother, the report said.

A police officer arrived around 12:30 a.m. and remained with the victim until about 2:30 a.m., but was unable to locate Bryan.

GPD Lt. Audrey Mazzuca said in a phone interview on Sunday afternoon that police then removed the victim from the scene and contacted the Department of Children and Families while leaving the truck in place.

A few hours later, another officer conducted a traffic stop of the same truck, which was being driven by Bryan.

Police reported that Bryan, who was driving without a valid license, admitted to smoking crack cocaine in front of her daughter while she was driving. She also admitted to leaving her daughter unattended in order to smoke more crack.

Bryan reportedly told police that she had intended to return for her daughter, but she got too high and forgot.

Bryan was charged with child neglect and was taken to the Alachua County jail, where she remained held on Sunday with bail set at $50,000.
