A woman who jumped out of her car to check on victims in a crash on Interstate 75 in Columbia County Wednesday is in critical condition after she was hit by another vehicle whose driver couldn't see the car in front of her because of a sudden downpour, the Florida Highway Patrol reported Thursday.

Atria Marshall, 36, of Decatur, Georgia, was in critical condition at UF Health Shands Hospital, an FHP media release said.

An accident occurred on I-75 shortly before 3:15 p.m. and a Kia was facing north in the southbound lane, the release said. Marshall got out to check on the driver of the Kia, but was hit by a 1998 Honda Civic driven by Dylan Robitaille, 26, of Gainesville, who couldn't see the accident ahead because of heavy rain.

Neither Robitaille nor her passenger was injured. Marshall's leg was severed. FHP troopers and Columbia County sheriff's deputies used tourniquets to help staunch the bleeding before Marshall was taken to the hospital.
