Alachua County Animal Services and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers are offering free pet adoptions to those donating blood on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Blood donors who go to Animal Services headquarters, 3400 NE 53rd Ave., receive a voucher good for a waived-fee adoption on any pet at the shelter. The vouchers are transferrable and don't expire.

Blood donors must be 17 or older, weigh 110 pounds or more and show ID.

Pet adopters must be 18 or older and show ID with proof of current address. If there are already pets in the home, the potential adopter must show proof that owned animals are current on rabies and license, an Alachua County government news release said. All dogs and cats available for adoption are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped before leaving Animal Services.
