Being missing for 42 days is “totally out of character” for her 65-year-old mother who always changes her clothes every single day, according to her daughter, Theresa Smith, who is distraught over the disappearance of her mother and even more disturb that police won’t tell her anything else about the case.

Her mother, Daisy Hayes, has been missing since May 1, according to Smith. “She was in good spirits when I saw her. We laughed and joked. She even asked me why I was wearing a wig, said I didn’t need one and to just comb my hair,” she said smiling.

When asked if her mother had a boyfriend, Smith, who came to the Rainbow PUSH Coalition for assistance, said he lives in an apartment the same building as her mother and that her neighbors allegedly labeled him as “very aggressive…a bully and they stay out of his way.” Smith said police did question him “but let him go.”

‘My mother’s disappearance is unusual,” Hayes said dropping her eyes. “My cousin dropped her off at her house (in the 6300 block of South Minerva) on Aril 30th. I saw her last on May 1st. We haven’t seen her since. I am worried and the police aren’t telling us anything,” she lamented.

Smith, who was accompanied by her mother’s granddaughter, Raynia Moore, can’t imagine anyone harming her mother she described as a 5’, 85-pound “loving, caring woman who was always lending a helping hand. She would feed your children and even clean up your house. I am very worried about her because she would not be caught wearing the same clothes,” Smith vowed to continue looking for her mother.

When contacted, Chicago police officer Michelle Tannehill, a spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department, said Hayes is still missing and detectives continue to investigate her disappearance.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Hayes, please call police at 312.745.6110.
