“Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything” read across the face of the, now prolific, trailblazer of the National Football League protest, Colin Kaepernick as he debuts as the new face of one of sports biggest brands.

Kaepernick signed a new, multiyear deal with Nike for their 30th anniversary for the company’s “Just Do It” campaign, Nike confirmed on Monday despite being out of the league for over a year.

This deal, headlining days before the N.F.L season opener Thursday, will produce all new merchandise ranging from T- shirts to shoes with a portion of the proceeds being donated back to Kap’s “Know Your Rights” campaign.

Kaepernick also recently won in his grievance against the league when an arbitrator let his case, in which he accuses the league of conspiring to keep him unemployed because of his peaceful protest and activism, move forward.

In March, Nike and the N.F.L. announced an extension of an apparel deal through 2028; supplying all 32 teams with game-day uniforms and sideline apparel with company’s iconic swoosh logo. Brian Rolapp, the NFL’s chief media and business officer, called the company “a longtime and trusted partner” of the league.

Now, with N.F.L. public enemy number 1 as the face of the same organization that’s outfitting the league, things may get complicated to say the least.

Kap isn’t the only athlete Nike is backing against negative stigmas. Tennis icon Serena Williams will also be featured within Nike’s newest campaign in response to French Tennis Federation President Bernard Giudicelli banning her “Black Panther” catsuit.
