Veronica Hendrix recently won an opportunity to train hands-on with culinary professional and restaurant owner Jamie Bissonnette.

As the winner of this year’s BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria) Compass Student Chef Experience Sweepstakes, Hendrix got a chance to be an assistant cook at the All-Star Chef Classic that featured more than 40 award-winning chefs from all over the world.

Hendrix is a self-taught cook who is known for Collard Greens and Caviar, a food-journalism blog that features the stories of culinary artists in Los Angeles and abroad.

Rose Rios

Rose Rios has been selected as this year’s 9th City Council District Pioneer Woman for Women’s History Month.

Rios is the founder and chief executive officer of Homeless Ministry, an organization that that provides meals, clothing, hygiene products and more to people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles.

Born in Lexington, Mississippi, Rios is one of nine children born to sharecroppers. Her family moved to South L.A. in the 1950s, where she grew up.

Lisa Collins

Lisa Collins has been hailed as a trailblazing African American by her alma mater, Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Collins is the director of talent and human resources business partner at Netflix. Before her current position, she worked in the human relations departments at NBCUniversal, Morgan Stanley and Warner Brothers Entertainment Group.

She received her bachelor’s in interdisciplinary and communications studies in 2006 from Cal State Dominguez Hills, and her master’s in management and leadership from Webster University in 2012.

Kaci Patterson

Kaci Patterson, owner and principal for Social Good Solutions, has been elected to the Social Venture Partners Los Angeles.

She is the current senior director for the L.A Partnership for Early Childhood Investment. In 2016, Patterson was named the Unsung Hero of L.A. and the Change Maker of the Year in 2017.

Patterson attended Pepperdine University, where she earned her bachelor’s in communications. She then attended the University of La Verne, receiving her master’s of business administration in organizational management and leadership before getting a certificate in mediation and conflict-resolution from Cal State Northridge.
